Even if you garden on chalk you can grow
heathers in tubs, troughs and window boxes. They will provide
wonderful splashes of colour and years of enjoyment.
Ensure adequate drainage by placing large pebbles or crocks
in the base of the container. Use lime-free, ericaceous compost
and plant sufficient plants to provide effect but not to be
overcrowded otherwise they will soon outgrow the container.
Remember that in periods of dry weather the heathers are
entirely dependent on you for water and food. Feed three times
a year with a liquid feed of Phostrogen Acid Plant Food. In
hard water areas, collect rainwater and use for irrigation.
